Heading down the Braintree path we hiked trails in the Chickatawbut lowlands.  The trails were in good condition and mostly dry.  We had lunch on the trails before heading back along the Bouncing Brook path.  A nice start to the series.

TRAILHEAD PARKING LOCATION & DESCRIPTION:    Parking was at the Mt. Wachusett Ski Area parking lot near the Balance Rock Trailhead.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE SPECIFIC TRAILS HIKED AND TRAIL CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED: There was no snow and and the trails were dry.  The first part of our hike followed  Balance Rock trail to Semuhenna and Harrington to the summit then we returned via the the Midstate Trail (including portions of West Side, Old Indian, Semuhenna and  Balance Rock Trails).

WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR HIKE:  Lovely fall day, sunny with some clouds.

 Great hike with a large group. Everyone seemed to enjoy the hike. No problems.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE SPECIFIC TRAILS HIKED AND TRAIL CONDITIONS ENCOUNTERED: The hike is through wooded conservation land with frequent moderate hills with roots and leaves.  The middle section of the hike is along the beach of Little Bay with views of Toby's and Emmon's Islands and  an oyster farm.  The trails were dry although slippery in a few spots due to the leaves on steeper trails.
WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR HIKE: Beautiful blue skies, low 50s, wind 10-15 mph, very low tide
OTHER COMMENTS (problems, views, terrain, etc.) No problems were encountered.  The group was able to stay together fairly well.  Our sweep, Cathy Giordano, is also a Level I Cape and SEM hike leader.

Today’s hike was the fifth and final in a series of five hikes.  Today was our Halloween Hike and we had prizes for the top four costumes.  All the participants enjoyed the series and are looking to more SEM hikes.

Today’s hike was the fourth in a series of five hikes.   We brought the hikers up the Skyline to Buck Hill and back down Buck Hill to the Red Dot Trail and looped back to Houghton’s Pond.  All the hikers had a great time and are looking forward to our Halloween Hike on October 29, 2016.

The hike was the third in a series of five hikes.  Although there was some trepidation about the steepness of Jefferies and the South Skyline, all the hikers had a great time and loved the trail route.   All the hikers are excited for next weeks hike!   Three of the hikers have signed up for the Winter Hiking Workshop and two for the SEM dinner.
