Thursday Morning Hike 1-05-2017 - Wildlands Trust Great River Reserve

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE SPECIFIC TRAILS HIKED AND TRAIL CONDITIONS
ENCOUNTERED:
Hiked trails in the Wildlands Trust Great River Preserve and The MF&G Taunton River Wild
Life Management Area. Mixed pine holly forest and open grassy meadows. Some trail sections
closest to the Taunton River were partially flooded due to recent heavy rainfall. Trails were well
maintained and passable.


WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR HIKE: Partly sunny with temps in the lower 30's, 10 MPH
winds.


OTHER COMMENTS (problems, views, terrain, etc.) Lunch stop in sheltered cove near river.
Many large Holly trees in bloom with red berries glowing in the mid-day winter sun. This was a
large group of well behaved group of adults enjoying a fine winter hike. Three hikers exited the
group early and safely via paved roadway to parking area due to previous injuries (back pain)
and lack of conditioning.


IMPORTANT: Contact Hike Committee Chair ASAP with any medical emergencies or other
serious incidents.

Snow shoed wooded Holly Forest trails to deep snow covered meadows adjacent to and
with views of the Taunton River.
